Time For A Bed M.O.T?

After all the spring cleaning when you really need a good night’s sleep there’s no excuse for you to be sleeping on that sagging mattress and those flimsy pillows any longer, especially since were offering a host of amazing special deals on beds this Easter weekend.

Don’t let an uncomfortable bed rob you of vital, restful sleep. The Sleep Council’s M.O.T. (Mattress Obsolescence Test) will help you determine if a new mattress would improve your chances of a better night’s sleep. It’s recommended you conduct this M.O.T. every year after the first three years of new bed ownership.

M.O.T
Ask yourself the following questions, be honest and answer yes or no.

• Are you sleeping as well as you did a year ago?

• Did you have a better night’s sleep recently somewhere other than your own bed?

• Are you waking up more frequently unrefreshed or aching?

• Is your bed seven years old or more?

• Is it big enough for you and your partner to sleep and move without disturbing each other?

• Do you and your partner roll towards each other unintentionally?

• Are there any bits missing, broken, sticking out or wobbly?

• Does it feel lumpy in the night?

• Does it make suspicious noises in the night?

• Would it be embarrassing if neighbours saw it without its covers?

If you answer ‘Yes’ to three questions, you’re not getting the most out of your mattress. Five or more ‘Yes’ answers and it’s time to get a new bed – and Easter at Lefton’s is a great time to find a great new bed at a great price! Sleep Is The All Round Miracle Cure!

“Sleep could be perceived as the neglected wonder cure of the modern age. A focus on better sleep habits could improve the health of the nation, boost the economy and save a significant amount in healthcare costs. It has no adverse side effects and comes extremely cheap!”

                                                Sleep expert Dr Neil Stanley

According to The Sleep Council, sleep is the new miracle cure; it will make you happier, healthier and more intelligent and even add years to your life and will definitely ensure you look your sparkling best.

Well I think most of us could certainly do with more of that tonic! and its much better on the pocket than a pro-biotic drink a day and not full of sugar either, so there’s another bonus, keeping your own teeth for few years longer!

Since it’s National Bed Month everyone is talking beds so who better to give them a good shout out than our very own resident sleep experts at Lefton’s Bedroom Superstore.

Firstly, we’ll dispense with the holier than though health approach of how you should drink less coffee and tea and drink more water, learn to relax more during the day, take up yoga or tai chi, avoid snacks before bed etc etc yawn yawn. I can feel myself getting stressed out just writing about the healthier route; I love coffee and I’m not about to give that up!

We’re going to focus on the miracle itself, the bed, after all you spend a third of your life in it, more if you are having fun and the right bed is key to quality sleep and for keeping you in tip top condition. We know most people don’t spend long enough choosing a bed so we always encourage our customers to jump on and try the bed out for size and comfort. We suggest you consider changing your bed at least every six years and should check your bed quality regularly if you have had it for three or more years. With all that time spent in bed it will start to wear and a sagging mattress is nobody’s friend!

Beds come in a range of types, styles, grades and firmness so you need to be sure its right for you. You can find out more in this great bed buying guide from the Sleep Council http://www.sleepcouncil.org.uk/Leaflets/downloads/bed_buyers_guide.pdf.

Its not about money, agreed, the more you spend the better the quality but even on a tight budget you can still get a quality bed and one that is ideally suited to you if selected well. Our staff are well versed in the bedroom department and will help you to select the best bed to suit your needs and budget and with so many reasonably priced, high quality stylish beds in our Bedroom Superstore there really is no excuse not to throw out your sagging mattress and floppy pillows and rebuild your love nest.

Whilst we stock leading brands like Sealy, Rest Assured, Sleepeezee, Myers and Slumberland, there are lots of other great bed manufacturers who are not as well known.

Companies like Somnus, Pocket Sprung Bed Company, Dreamworks and many others. They are not all luxury beds either but do offer superior quality manufacturing and use a range of interesting high quality materials too.

The winter months may seem to have brought you nothing but bad news what with the VAT increase and the media telling you before you have even left the house that today will be the most miserable day of the year, but we’re on the way out of winter and away from the doom and gloom. The nights are getting longer and its feeling a little warmer too with spring well and truly in the air. There’s a spring in our step too as we no longer have to sit in bumper to bumper queues of cars moving at a snails pace every day. Have you tried driving round Blackpool recently? It seems as though there are road works and construction projects just about everywhere, so working from home and eliminating the commute on some days has been the perfect antidote!

Our antidote comes in the form of a home office, we’ve recently added a new collection of home office furniture in our superstore and I just had to have some for home too. 1 Goodbye, 2 Hellos and A Move

Over the last month there's been a lot going on.  It was sad to say Goodbye to Tricia who dealt with our admin and deliveries but unfortunately due to health problems for her husband she felt she could no longer give her full attention to the job.  We sincerely wish her and her family all the best for the future and we will be keeping in touch.

Once Tricia decided she could not carry on the interview process had to begin.  We received in excess of 75 applications and it took 3 of us a whole day to have an initial look at the CV's and decide who was suitable and who we could unfortunately remove from the process at the first step.  Then from the 20 or so most suitable applicants we had to look more closely and make the decision on who to invite for an interview.  We interviewed 12 people and made a short list of 4 which we then jointly reduced to 2.  It was a really tough decision but  after 2nd interviews the job was offered to and accepted by Beverley who has now been with us for 3 weeks and although it is difficult joining an established team she is settling in well.

CV's are often the first impression a prospective employer will get about you and it is a shame when people who may impress at interview do not come across as suitable from their CV.  Employers do not have the time to interview every single person who submits a CV so make sure yours stands out - but not by putting animation etc on it! Angels blowing kisses are not appropriate (at least not for this type of job). For advice on CV's go to www.Totaljobs.com/careers-advice

Another new addition to the Lefton's team is Chris who is running our warehouse. Chris is polite, hard working and keen to learn and for those of you who think working in a warehouse is an easy job I can assure you it isn't.  You have to be aware of all goods being delivered in to us from all the different manufacturers.  All deliveries being made by us to our customers have to be made ready for the delivery staff, any returns have to be made available for the manufacturer to collect and as well as all that Chris has to know exactly which item is which.  So when you think he has to know every piece of furniture and every bed it's quite some information he has had to learn but he has given us back our faith in the younger generation.  Teenagers don't always come with the best of reputations and although he had a birthday last week and said goodbye to his teenage years he has proved that for every teenager who can't be bothered there will always be a Chris if you look hard enough.

Over the last couple of months we have moved out of one warehouse and into another so for a time we were utilising our basement in General Street as our warehouse but now we are up and running properly again with more efficient systems in place.

So after the upheaval of August and September it would be nice to think the next few months would be calm but now we turn our thoughts to Christmas cut off dates from manufacturers.  Yes, just as decorations and cards are in shops now, furniture manufacturers have to plan their schedules to ensure goods ordered can be delivered before their 'Christmas Shutdown' period.  We are now starting to get notification through so if you were thinking of new furniture for Christmas, don't leave it much longer.

They say things come in threes, so hopefully we have had our 3 changes and Beverley, Chris and the new warehouse are around for some time.
